8:00 AM - 2:00 PM    Summer Rec Program - Summer Rec Program
At Sturbridge Recreation, our summer program is guided by a simple yet powerful philosophy: kids learn best through play, exploration, and real-world social interactions. Our mission is to provide a safe, welcoming environment where children can grow emotionally, socially, and physically through unstructured, self-directed play — the kind that fosters creativity, builds resilience, and mirrors the freedoms many adults remember from childhood. We believe in stepping back so kids can step up. Our program is intentionally less structured than traditional camps, encouraging children to make their own choices, take healthy risks, navigate group dynamics, and solve problems collaboratively. These experiences help develop vital life skills such as: Compromise and conflict resolution Integration into diverse peer groups Creative and critical thinking Self-regulation and emotional awareness Confidence through trying, failing, and trying again While our program emphasizes independence and exploration, our staff are actively engaged in creating opportunities for fun, movement, and connection. Campers can participate in a variety of activities including tennis, basketball, group games, arts and crafts, board games, and more. These activities provide options and inspiration while still allowing children the freedom to choose how they engage with their day.A key part of our program is safe swimming at our beach, supervised by a highly trained team of certified lifeguards. Water safety is a major priority. Our staff actively teach and model safe behavior in and around the water so that campers not only stay safe, but also learn habits that promote responsibility and awareness.Rather than prescribing every moment of a child’s day, we cultivate an environment that encourages learning through play, curiosity, and community. This approach aligns with best practices in child development while also reflecting the kind of childhood many people remember fondly — climbing trees, inventing games, negotiating rules, and learning how to work things out face-to-face.We also understand that every child is different. Some children thrive in highly structured environments, and families should choose the programs that best match their needs. For those who enjoy independence, creativity, and social exploration, our program provides an experience that helps build confidence, empathy, and real-world social skills.Let kids be kids. Let them lead. We’ll be there to guide, encourage, and keep them safe while giving them the space they need to grow. This program is open to any Sturbridge resident (Going into 2nd-8th grade in the fall).  Children must be at least going into 2nd grade in Fall of 2026 COST: $15/day or $50 per Week.  Maximum price per child is $250 (second child maximum is $225, Max $600/family) - Discounts will be done manually in the office, so don't worry if your price is over the cap when you first register.
